Four Manchester United legends will tee off in support of the Red CCTV Charity Golf Day.
Captain Marvel Bryan Robson, Denis Irwin, Arthur Albiston and Mickey Thomas have all pledged to play to raise funds for The Christie.
Red CCTV’s annual charity golf day fundraiser will be held in October at stunning The Mere Golf and Country club in Knutsford.
This year, the annual event will hold special significance for Red CCTV Managing Director Rob Kennedy, as it will be played in honor of his best friend, George William McCarthy.
George, known to his friends as Billy, tragically lost his 14 year battle with cancer, at the age of 50, in December 2019.
Special Day
Kennedy, said: “It will be a special day, especially as we will be playing in memory of my great friend Billy.
“He was amazing man who simply refused to give in and he fought to the end.
“Billy was diagnosed with cancer at the age 37, but, his dogged resistance, his mental toughness and his desire for life, and love for his young family meant he refused to give in.
“He received wonderful care from Professor Mark Saunders and his team at The Christie and it would be a tremendous honour if we can do something, to say thank-you to them in Billy’s memory.
“We hope we can grow this event, host it every year and add a fund raising ball in the evening as well.”
The event will be hosted at the Mere on Friday, October 2, and will include an 18-hole competition with on-course prizes.
Players will compete for a variety of prizes including the longest drive and nearest the pin, and a prize-giving will follow with BBQ and drinks.
Covid-19 social distancing rules will be applied, and the event will of course only be held if it is able to comply with Government guidelines at the time.
Halo Shield
Kennedy added: “The Covid-19 situation is frustrating, but keeping everyone safe will always remain our top priority so we have to reviews things as we get nearer to the event.
“We will be using our own Halo Shield Body Temperature Pods to screen visitors as they arrive and there will be plenty of hand sanitizer and social distancing in play.
“We will be using a QR based track and trace solution on the day when registering and doing everything we can to keep our guests safe.
“Seriously, I’ve seen the way some of our guests play golf and they are always very socially distant!
“Fingers crossed we are able to press on and hold the event as planned and raise a fabulous amount of money for the Christie.”
Red CCTV have invited 20 teams to compete for the ‘The George’, a trophy named in honor of George McCarthy for the charity golf day.
Flannery Plant Hire and The Morson Group are backing the event as sponsors and all monies raised will be donated to The Christie NHS Trust, the Manchester-based charity who work so tirelessly to support those people suffering from cancer.
Teams attending the event include Manchester United legends, Morson Group, Network Plus, Fastflow, Taziker, Cadent and others.
