Red CCTV are celebrating another prestigious award for the Cork Lower Harbour Project.
It was crowned winner of the ‘Land Based / Onshire Pipelines Project Award’ at the Pipeline Industries Guild Awards 2021.
The Irish Water and O’Connor Utilities Limited team were and crowned Winners at the prestigious awards ceremony hosted online this year, because of Covid restrictions.
It is the second major award for the project following on from the success of the inaugural Ervia Major Projects Contractor Safety Award early this year.
The project involved two of the longest horizontal directional drills ever carried out in Ireland and Red CCTV played an important role in the success.
Our team created a HD live camera stream capable of monitoring the drill head as it worked below the Lee Estuary to ensure everyones safety.
Mammoth Project
Red CCTV Managing Director, Rob Kennedy, said: “We are delighted for Irish Water and O’Connor Utilities for winning their award. It is very rightly deserved as this was a mammoth project.
“They were attempting to drill under the Lee Estuary to connect Cobh and Monkstown so they could connect two 500mm sewage pipes, and end years of waste being pumped into the harbour.
“It was crucial that the drill drive, sitting some 1.4km behind the head, could see what was happening and so we created a live CCTV solution to give the driver the perfect view.
“The job was hugely exciting and became a huge success and we are very proud to have played a small role in its success.”
Live Streaming
The Cork Lower Harbour Main Drainage Scheme was €144 million project designed to end years of raw sewages being released into the estuary.
Red CCTV’s innovative CCTV Solution ensured the drill driver but also senior management back in head office could watch the drilling live streamed.
The Pipeline Industries Guild Awards 2021 had no doubt of its success hailing the project as “technically” brilliant as it was crowned winner at the event last week,
The PIG honour three technology awards and three project awards in three sections; Subsea, land-based and Utility Pipelines.
This year, the award ceremony was hosted by Sean Greenwood, the PIG Onshore Panel Chair, who described the difficult of narrowing down entries given the standard of projects.
The Cork Lower Harbour Project beat off competition from United Utilities and Mott MacDonald Bentley for the Haweswater Aqueduct Replacement of Hallbank Tunnels, the ULC Pipeline Robotics supporting Brighton’s Redevelopment with Robotics: CISBOT to the top spot.
Hopefully the awards will be held in person next year as the country emerges gradually from lockdown. To watch this years awards in full see the Awards Video below.
